A Vistara flight operating from Frankfurt to Mumbai on Wednesday received a security threat on social media, an airline spokesperson said, adding that the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay for inspection after landing safely at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
This is the 13th such incident in just four days that Indian flights, operating both on domestic and international routes, received fake bomb threats. The targeted airlines include Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air.
The Vistara spokesperson said all the passengers and crew of flight UK 028 were safe and “all relevant authorities were immediately informed” of the threat.
We are fully cooperating with the security agencies to complete the mandatory security checks. At Vistara, the safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft is of the utmost importance to us.”
On Wednesday, two flights – one from Akasa Air and IndiGo – received bomb threats, which later turned out to be hoax calls.
The previous day, seven Indian flights got bomb threats, with at least two of them making emergency landings.
On Monday, three international flights from Mumbai were affected due to similar threats, with one being diverted to Delhi.
In the wake of these back-to-back security incidents, the Centre is considering a series of measures, including putting the hoax callers on ‘no-fly list’ and increasing the number of air marshals on flights.
Sources told India Today TV that officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and Ministry of Home Affairs met to discuss the bomb threats received by airlines.
The Ministry is working with law enforcement agencies to identify hoax callers to update the ‘no-fly list’.
